Opening Items

        Approval of minutes from October 17, 2016 meeting

        New parent member will join the group for the next meeting: Andrea Gonzala

        Community Meeting Update :

             Second grade presented the theme “Thankfulness”

             Special Guest Veteran presented- Lt. Colonel Jenna Dolan (Marine Reserves) pilot-

             PBIS- Review expectations for the playground which will be the new

             Area of focus for Safety, Respect and Responsibility

             Aimee Shepperd’s class performed skits, to model expected behaviors on the playground

             Introduce “Goldie” the BellSchool Mascot

        GerryBuilding Committee Update:

              Aimee Shepperd will be Bell School Teacher representative

              3 parents will join committee

        Odyssey of the Mind Update- Robin Berg:

             41 students are registered (3 on waiting list)- organized into 6 Teams

             Competition will be in Sutton, MA

             Some scholarships have been available

 

     Professional Development, November 2, 2016, PARCC Review:

             Teachers broke into groups of 5 (one teacher representing each grade plus special education

             Groups rotated

              Analysis of Data (Looked over student scores) and made observations

              Teachers did actual practice items from test- This provided teachers with an idea of how much prep work

              and practice grade 3 teachers provide to students to prepare them for “language of the testing”

              Observed that students will need to show work that represents thinking strategies

              Next steps-Test taking strategies will need to be directly taught

              MCAS 2 will be administered this year

      PTO Update:

              Maryanne Perry and Administrators attended Bell School PTO meeting

              Fundraising for Playground- what impact will new school feasibility study affect designation of funds

              Harvest of the Month- Kale

              BoxTops for Education Contest: Ms. Shepperds’s class collected most Boxtops

              Pumpkin Stroll very successful

              Spirit Wear sale

 OPENING ITEMS:

 

 1. Approve minutes from May 1st meeting, September 26th meeting.

 2. Continue to focus on the ongoing initiatives in the School Improvement Plan–

 Goal 1 –Math:

  • Continued efforts to establish and finalize criteria for Title I eligibility for at risk students, grades 1-3.
  • Rooms and materials for math and reading tutoring have been reorganized this year to maximize effective use of space and staff
  • Parents Sarah Fox and Ben Farr had positive feedback from their children about the “Bellopoly Day” lessons and incentives,
  • Lisa Jendrasik will join PBIS as a parent representative
  • October 24- Pumpkin Walk- The Pumpkin Walk will include costumes, apples, cider,   photo booth
  • Pumpkins will be placed in classrooms to collect BoxTops For Education
  • Can a Bell School Bulletin Board be created to post upcoming events?  

 3. PBIS Update: Janet Bach –

  • “Bellopoly Day” went smoothly and    received very positive   

          feedback from staff, students, PBIS Team members

 4. PTO Update: Sarah Fox

Possible location by Drop Off/Pick Up Point

Donna Zaeske has a sandwich board that may be a possibility                                                                

 

 5. Technology Update:

  • Keyboarding Instruction and Practice began in Grade 3 on the week of October 12.
  • Students are using the Type to Learn Program

6. PARCC Test Results

  • PARCC:  Bell School:  Accountability Report, Level 1,  Commended for High Progress,  Increase in Advanced Proficient, Decrease in Warning
  • Nov 2 Professional Development half day:  Bell Staff study results and PARCC sample questions

 School Budgets:

  • Budget not frozen, money spent until June 2016
  • Simplistic budget- line items
  • Budget at Bell greater than principals discretionary budget
  • Many items taken care of by District-Central budget pays for some GoMath materials, building improvement technology, copy machines, AIMS WEB materials
  • Ken Lord- has set 5 year plan- but additional s ipads were purchased by other means, help from PTO
  • Completed set for first grade and second grade, cart
  • Continued priority with technology, as grade 3 will need to use ipads for standardized testing. Keyboarding
  • Wireless network was upgraded as a priority
  • Bell continues to have money in budget
