Volunteering Requirements

On January 10 2013, Governor Patrick signed Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, "An Act Relative to Background Checks." Under Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, all school-related personnel with the potential for unsupervised contact with children must submit to state and national fingerprint-based criminal history checks. This includes: all public PreK-12 school employees (administrators, teachers, tutors, paraprofessionals, permanent substitutes, secretaries, clerical staff, maintenance staff and custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, field trip chaperones and all subcontractors/laborers working on school grounds). All new hires, as well as all existing employees and educators, are required to complete the new fingerprint-based state and national background check along with the regular CORI check. All school employees are currently required to submit to fingerprint-based background checks on a phased-in schedule leading up to the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. Our professional obligation is extended out for up to three years.

Marblehead Public School District requires that volunteers who come to the schools during the day also need a CORI completed every three years. Once submitted, these CORIs usually only take a day or two to be processed. There is no cost for a CORI.

Please print and fill out the following CORI forms and return them in person to your school office. You must also present a government-issued ID. If you do not submit your completed application in person, it will not be processed.

Volunteers who wish to chaperone a field trip, daily and/or overnight, must now also be fingerprinted. This process may take much longer (could be as long as a few weeks) and there is a cost factor for the fingerprinting process. If the volunteer is a licensed educator, the cost is $55.00. For all others, the cost is $35.00. Field-trip chaperones will not be allowed on the field trip if they have not been fingerprinted.

A list of locations can be found here.

You must preregister at http://www.identogo.com/Home.aspx. The fingerprint locations will not accept walk-ins.

The volunteer will be required to provide Marblehead Public Schools ESE Organization Code: 01680000 when registering.

If you have any questions about this procedure, please contact your school's secretary.
