Marblehead High School Update – 6/25/17

Thank You
Thank you for a great year.  We hope everyone has a great summer, with time for relaxation.  The Weekly Update will take a break over the summer and will continue at the start of the school year.
MHS Summer Hours
MHS Summer Hours are Monday-Friday 7:30am to 3pm.
Report Cards
We will send out an email once the report cards are ready for distribution.  We anticipate Tuesday 6/27 in the afternoon.
Locker Clean Out
Please check with your child for any items that have been stored in lockers, including clothing, jackets or coats, personal items, school items, etc.  All items in lockers along with personal locks should be removed from student lockers.
Any outstanding items including library materials and athletic uniforms should be returned.  These items can be returned to the Main Office.

2017-2018 Student Schedule Distribution & Registration
Student schedules will be sent out early July.  This includes student schedules for the incoming 8th graders.  These schedules will include courses assigned, not with teacher or rooms assignments.
We are planning MHS Registration during mid-August with dates and times to follow.  This event will include the distribution of student schedules including room and teacher assignments.  Also, MHS registration will involve various student forms and paperwork needed to begin school.  This will be similar to the registration event that was held last August.

Summer Reading List
Thanks to the MHS English Department and MHS Librarian Susan Shatford for their collaborative work creating the updated and revised Summer Reading list.  Attached is the MHS Summer Reading list.

Please review the Summer Checklist for Rising Seniors.  The Checklist provides SAT/ACT information, Naviance and the Common App access and, most importantly, the Common App Essay Prompts for 2017-2018.
Juniors should schedule a meeting with their counselor as soon as possible to discuss their post-secondary plans and develop a list of potential colleges. Juniors need to complete the Teacher Recommendation Request Form and Student Information Sheet (Brag Sheet) before the end of the school year.
The Guidepost (college planning guide) for Juniors has been posted to the Guidance website.

Attendance & Grade Notifications in Aspen

Parents and students can receive email notifications for Attendance and Grade entries in Aspen. The system allows you to subscribe to these notifications. They are not sent until you subscribe to them. The email message is sent daily at approx 4 p.m.  Messages are only sent if you subscribe and if an attendance or grade event as described below has been entered that day.

This subscription notifies you of any attendance entry for your student.  To view the list of Daily Attendance Codes, please click here.

This subscription notifies you when any HS or Veterans School assignment grades below a specified threshold are entered for your student. Grades are scaled as a percent from 0 to 100. If your student receives a class assignment or test grade that is below the specified threshold, a notification will be sent to your email address. The threshold should be a number from 0 to 100. For example, an entry of 75 would trigger a notification for any grade entered that scaled below 75%.

To Sign up for these notifications:

Log into your Parent or Student Aspen Account.
Click on Set Preferences in the upper right.
Click on the Security Tab.
Enter your email address in the Primary Email Address field. (you may also enter a second address in the Alternate Email Address field)
Click OK to close the Preferences window.
Parent Account users should then click on the Family tab at the top, then click on their child's name. Student Account users should click on the My Info Tab at the top.
Click on the Notification side tab.
Check off the Notification(s) you want to enable.
Enter a grade threshold if you are activating the grade notification.

Please note that parents with multiple children need to activate these notifications for each of their children. The grade notifications only apply to assignment grades on the Academics Tab for students in grades 7-12. Transcript grades posted at the end of each quarter do not trigger these notifications.

Work Permits - Now available at MHS
The Main Office at MHS will now issue work permits.  This is a change as they were issued previously at the Central Administration building.  Please see Ms. Ivers in the Main Office for assistance with work permits.
