Marblehead Athletics Mission and Values
Athletic Department Mission Statement
At Marblehead High School, athletics is an integral part of the educational experience for many students. Athletic competition can play an important role in a student’s physical, intellectual, and emotional development. Winning is the object of the game, but our purpose as administrators and coaches is to challenge students to do their very best, to compete, to be resilient, to take responsibility, and to prepare them to succeed in athletics, academics, and life. A true measure of success is evaluating how each student improves, prepares for intense competition, and how he/she handles failure as well as success. Backed by experienced coaches and outstanding support from the town, Marblehead athletes learn the values of sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and commitment. Student-athletes push themselves to improve, realize their academic and physical potential, and prepare themselves for the world after Marblehead High School.

Athletic Department Goals & Values
The goal of the Marblehead Athletic Department is to provide safe, enjoyable athletic programming for the benefit of as many student-athletes as possible. Each team will do its very best to compete successfully with Northeast Conference & non-league opponents and with teams or individuals of a similar division in state competition.
Marblehead High School is a member of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) whose primary purpose is to organize, regulate, and promote interscholastic athletics for the secondary schools of Massachusetts. Membership requires that Marblehead High School agrees to abide by the rules of the association.
Marblehead Athletics is committed to excellence both on and off the field. With 28 varsity programs and over 40 sub-varsity teams each year, our department provides student-athletes with the opportunity to compete, grow, and represent their community with pride.
Guided by our values, our coaches emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, commitment, integrity, and responsibility. Our goal is to develop well-rounded student-athletes who succeed in competition, in the classroom, and in life.
These values guide our daily actions and define what it means to be a part of Marblehead Athletics.
TEAMWORK
Working together to achieve a common goal. Being part of something bigger than ourselves.
RESPONSIBILITY
Being accountable for your own actions and performance. Maintaining a high standard of behavior that reflects positively on your team, school, and community. Athletics is a privilege; you are now held to a higher standard
INTEGRITY
Doing what is right and honest, even when no one is watching
SPORTSMANSHIP
Sportsmanship is showing respect and responsibility during athletic competition. Win with class, lose with dignity.
COMMITMENT
Commitment is a pledge to a course of action. It is a choice, and it cannot be given to us. It is the connection between our values, intentions, and our actions. Behind all excellence lies commitment. Being committed is hard work, but it can be incredibly fulfilling.
RESPECT
Valuing teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, rules, the game, yourself, and the community. Treat others as you would like to be treated.
