Field Hockey Head Coach- Alison Carey; carey.alison@marbleheadschools.org
Coach Carey brings a wealth of athletic experience and leadership to her role. She is a graduate of Boston College, where she played club field hockey, and holds a master's degree in social work from Simmons University. Currently a clinical social worker at Marblehead High School, she works closely with the Athletic Department, supporting leadership initiatives and developing mentoring programs. Her dedication to fostering a strong team culture and upholding core athletic values makes her an inspiring leader for the field hockey program. - High School D2

Girls Soccer Head Coach- Lisa Wales; wales.lisa@marbleheadschools.org
Prior to joining the MHS soccer program in August of 2023, Lisa was actively involved with Marblehead Youth Soccer for many years. She played both soccer and lacrosse at Connecticut College and captained both teams her senior year. She was an All New England Regional All Star in soccer and Regional All American in Lacrosse her senior year at Connecticut College. Lisa is a certified Personal Trainer with a strong strength and conditioning background and enjoy working with the student athletes. - High School D2

Boys Soccer Head Coach- Elmer Magana; magana.elmer@marbleheadschools.org
Coach Magaña, a native of El Salvador, has been coaching soccer at Marblehead High since 2011. He took over as varsity coach in 2020 after years with the JV team. A Spanish teacher at MHS since 2006, he’s led the varsity squad to playoff appearances each season from 2021 to 2024, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2024. He grew up playing soccer in El Salvador before moving to Compton, California in 1989, where he played both soccer and football in high school. He earned his BA from UCLA and a Master's from Middlebury College, where he played one season of soccer. “Soccer is in my DNA. It’s a religion in El Salvador,” he says. “It’s the sport that unites people, regardless of skin color, religion, gender, or status. It’s the beautiful game.”Coach Magaña - High School D2

Football Head Coach- Jim Rudloff; rudloff.jim@marbleheadschools.org
Coach Rudloff has been the Head Coach at MHS since 2009.  Since that time the Magicians have won the NEC 13 times: 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024.  Under Rudloff Marblehead has competed for the state championship at Gillette stadium in 2009, 2016 and 2021, winning the D3 State Championship with an undefeated 14-0 record.  Coach Rudloff started off as an assistant coach at Marblehead for 4 years before coaching 4 years at Beverly High School.  A special education teacher at the high school since 2001, Rudloff graduated & played football at Northeastern University before moving to Marblehead. - High School D4

Girls Volleyball Head Coach- Shelley Burns;  burns.shelley@marbleheadschools.org
Named the Varsity Head Coach in 2026, Shelley leads the Marblehead High School volleyball program. She has been a member of the Marblehead community since 2017, when she began teaching at Village School as an English Language Education teacher. Shelley has studied sports psychology, volleyball coaching, and mental performance, and is eager to apply this knowledge to support her student-athletes. - High School D2

Boys Cross Country Head Coach- Brian Heenan; heenan.brian@marbleheadschools.org
Brian Heenan is in his 24th year of coaching Cross Country and has been teaching biology at Marblehead High School since 2001. Known for his impeccable character, Brian has dedicated himself to shaping student-athletes both on and off the course. Outside of coaching, he is a proud father of three: a 17-year-old senior, a 14-year-old freshman, and an 8-year-old third grader. Brian's commitment to education and athletics has made a lasting impact on the Marblehead community. - High School D2

Girls Cross Country Head Coach- Will Herlihy; herlihy.will@marbleheadschools.org
Will began coaching track and field at Marblehead High School in Winter of 2021 and became head coach of the girls’ cross-country team in Fall 2022. An MHS alum and former Division I athlete at Sacred Heart University, he is dedicated to helping student-athletes grow as individuals and teammates while reaching their athletic potential. The program emphasizes respect, self-discipline, inclusion, and a supportive team culture. “It’s been amazing to give back to the MHS program that meant so much to me as a student-athlete. Outside of coaching, I enjoy learning about endurance physiology, running, and spending time with family, friends, and my dog Jazzy.” Coach Herlihy  -High School D2

Football Cheering Head Coach- Samantha Klipper; klipper.samantha@marbleheadschools.org
As the Varsity Cheer Coach, Samantha has over 10 years of Coaching experience at the youth and high school levels. She has used that experience to develop student athletes as a Coach and mentor. Samantha has more than doubled the program size since 2021, which is a testament to the culture she’s built and continues to build by promoting a positive and competitive team environment for athletes. - High School D3

Golf Head Coach Coach- Bob Green; green.robert@marbleheadschools.org
Bob Green served as Head Professional at Tedesco Country Club from 1979 to 2019 and has been the Marblehead High School Varsity Golf Coach since 2018. A recipient of multiple NEPGA awards, including Golf Professional of the Year (2019), he has coached teams to Division 2 State Championships. Bob is also a former competitive golfer, with notable titles including the 1999 Cape Cod Senior Open Champion. Bob qualified for and competed in the 2000 US Senior Open Championship. He has contributed to youth sports and served in various community coaching roles. 

Boys Basketball Head Coach- Mike Giardi; giardi.michael@marbleheadschools.org
Michael just completed his 12th year of his second stint as head coach of the Magicians. His first tenure ran from 2000 to 2007, during which he took over a struggling program and led them to an NEC title in his final season. Returning to the Magicians in 2013, he has guided the team to the State Tournament in 11 of the past 12 seasons, including deep runs in 2016–17 (19-3, NEC Champions), 2022–23, and 2023–24.In addition to his coaching responsibilities on the court, Michael also serves as an assistant football coach, head baseball coach, and the Lead Teacher in the Math Department at MHS.   - High School D2

Wrestling Head Coach- Mike Stamison; stamison.mike@marbleheadschools.org
Michael is a proud Marblehead High School alum and Massachusetts Maritime Academy graduate. Coach Stamison has been a coach at MHS since 2010, serving as head coach for 10 years. Named the 2021-2022 CAL/NEC Coach of the year, Coach Stamison has built a program known for excellence and sportsmanship, with his team earning the NEC Sportsmanship award every season he’s been on staff. - High School D2

Girls Ice Hockey Head Coach- Jon Strzempek; strzempek.jon@marbleheadschools.org
Jon Strzempek is a dedicated coach and educator with a passion for mentoring student-athletes. He recently served as Interim Head Coach for the Marblehead High School girls varsity hockey team in 2024, after coaching the boys junior varsity team. A social studies teacher at Marblehead High, Jon also coaches junior varsity baseball, bringing a well-rounded approach to leadership both on and off the ice. - High School D2

Boys Ice Hockey Head Coach- Brendan Locke; Locke.Brendan@marbleheadschools.org
A Marblehead resident for 30 years, Brendan Locke brings extensive coaching and playing experience to the Boys Hockey Program. He previously served as Assistant Coach for Marblehead Varsity Hockey (2014–2018) and Head Coach at Marblehead Veterans Middle School (2013–2018), leading teams to league titles and playoff runs. A former captain at Merrimack College, Brendan was a three-time Academic All-American and an NHL draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers. He holds a USA Hockey Level 4 Certification. - High School D3

Gymnastics Head Coach- Samantha Klipper; klipper.samantha@marbleheadschools.org
Coach Klipper, a former high school gymnast and our dedicated cheer coach, brings the same passion, commitment, and coaching philosophy from cheer to gymnastics. Leading a co-op team with Swampscott, she understands the importance of inclusion and community. To bring the team together one of her first initiatives was to design a new logo that represents both towns. Coach Klipper has built a team culture grounded in positivity, athleticism, and competitive spirit. - High School D1

Boys & Girls Indoor Track Head Coach- Nolan Raimo; raimo.nolan@marbleheadschools.org
Nolan Raimo was a State Champion decathlete and hurdler at Marblehead High School and national qualifier in the 400m hurdles at Williams College. In 6 years of coaching, Nolan was named Salem News Coach of the Year (2021, 2024, 2025), Lynn Item Coach of the Year (2024, 2025), and Boston Globe Coach of the Year (2024). NEC Conference Champion (2021 and 2024); D3 State Relay Champion (2024); D3 Runner-Up State Champion (2024). He has coached 19 state champions, 12 national qualifiers, and helped 26 athletes continue their track careers in college. - High School D3

Swimming & Diving Head Coach- Susan Guertin; guertin.susan@marbleheadschools.org
Coach Guertin began her coaching journey with the North Shore Tritons in Peabody and brings over 14 years of competitive swimming experience. A former high school team captain and two-time LEC champion in college, Coach Guertin specializes in butterfly and freestyle, with favorite events including the 100 and 200 fly, and 200 free. Passionate and pool-born, Susan is dedicated to helping athletes thrive both in and out of the water. - High School Boys D1/ High School Girls D1

Skiing Head Coach- John Thompson; thompson.john@marbleheadschools.org
A Marblehead native, John has spent over 10 years as a head coach, building a highly successful program and winning multiple state championships. Known for a deep passion for the sport and commitment to student-athlete development, John also enjoys spending time on the slopes, bringing that same energy and enthusiasm to both coaching and competition. - High School D1 

Baseball Head Coach- Michael Giardi; giardi.mike@marbleheadschools.org
Mike took over as head baseball coach at MHS in 2017. He also serves as an assistant football coach, head basketball coach, and Lead Teacher in the Math Department. A former Ivy League Player of the Year and four-year starter at Harvard University, Michael went on to play four years of minor league baseball with the Yankees, Giants, and Expos organizations. During his playing career, he ran various baseball camps and later founded his own indoor training facility, which he operated for over 15 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. - High School D2

Nolan Raimo was a State Champion decathlete and hurdler at Marblehead High School and national qualifier in the 400m hurdles at Williams College. Coed Sailing Head Coach- Alan McKinnon; amckinnon@thegarrettgroup.com    
Alan joins Marblehead Athletics as the Sailing Coach, bringing a strong passion for the water and the sport. He is excited to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with his student-athletes, helping them grow both on and off the water.

Wheeler has been deeply embedded in Marblehead’s sports community for many years. A former high school football and baseball player, he earned a marketing degree from The Ohio State University before building a successful career in sales and marketing. He followed his passion for athletics into education; he earned a Master’s in Athletic Administration from Endicott College and was a teacher and coach at Marblehead High School.

Christine Silva joined Marblehead as Assistant Athletic Director in March 2026. With over a decade of collegiate coaching and athletic operations experience, she brings a strong background and looks forward to making a positive impact on student-athletes and the Marblehead community.

Maddie Rowe has been a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer since May 2020 and has been part of the teams at Mass General Brigham and Marblehead High School since October 2021. A 2021 graduate of Merrimack College, Maddie earned a Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science, following a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Plymouth State University. She has worked with a diverse range of athletes, from youth to professionals, providing expert care in injury prevention, treatment, and performance enhancement. Outside of work, Maddie enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and their dog.
