Volunteering with the Marblehead Public Schools
Background Check for Volunteers
In January 2013, the Governor signed Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, "An Act Relative to Background Checks." This new law expands what public, private, and parochial schools, including approved private special education schools and child care facilities already do in conducting state Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) checks.
ALL employees and contracted workers along with ALL volunteers will be processed for a CORI at least once every three (3) years as currently required by law.
The Law Requires a Fingerprint-Based State and National Criminal Record Check For All:
- new hires
- existing school employees (including facilities and cafeteria workers)
- bus drivers
- contracted employees
- fellows, interns and student teachers
- and volunteers who will have direct and unmonitored contact with children or who regularly volunteer in our buildings
ALL volunteers who will have direct and unmonitored contact with children must be fingerprinted. There is a $35 fee for unlicensed educators.
